HOMECOMING – November 7 & 8
Each fall a wonderful tradition is carried on at Handsworth where the grads from the music program are invited to return for a fun musical reunion. This year Grads as far back as 1976 will attend in order to honor Mr. Rebagliati’s twentieth year as Music Director at Handsworth Secondary. “Mr. Reb” has been the driving factor behind Handsworth’s award-winning music program which is known for its high level of excellence.
Homecoming 95 will also be the official launch of our Grand Piano Wish Campaign. Music Man Stores have generously donated a grand piano for use during our concerts. Greg Smerdjiian, a talented grade twelve student who is studying to be a performing classical pianist, will be our guest artist on this wonderful piano.
TORCH LIGHT CEREMONY – November 30
The Senior Jazz Band performed at the Torch Lighting Ceremony at the opening of the B.C. Winter Games held at the Centennial Theatre at 7:00 pm. They played David Foster’s Winter Olympics Theme Song as well as a fanfare for the athletes as they parade on stage.
BRISBANE STATE H. S. CONCERT BAND & ORCHESTRA – December 11, 12 and 13
SWEET MUSIC, CHRISTMAS CONCERT – December 20
The Christmas Concert, Sweet Music is our major fundraising event of the year, and what better cause for you or your company than to help sponsor this evening through a private or corporate donation. Each year we seek New Sponsors to replace those whose children have graduated, and we are appealing especially to those of you who are new to the Handsworth band and Orchestra family to join a tradition of support that has held the Music Program in good stead these last several years of funding cutbacks.
Sponsorship can take many forms, the most common being – but by no means limited to – a cash donation. We are also pleased to receive donations such as seats to major sporting events. This year Grizzly tickets would be viewed as a premium gift for our Silent Auction or Raffle.
Other prized items include complimentary hotel accommodation, or use of a cabin in Whistler, for example, to which we can add ski passes and dinner for two, or an evening at the theatre followed by brunch in an elegant restaurant.
Last year we had several food and beverage hampers donated that were in great demand at the Silent Auction and hope that we receive more of the same this year, but in any event all donations are gratefully received and realize a benefit for the Music Program.
